The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has recalled a range of children’s decorative and coloured sand products after testing found they may contain naturally occurring tremolite asbestos.

If you think your coloured sand product may be affected, please check the latest recall notices and advice on the ACCC Product Safety website.

Disposal advice – Update

The latest SafeWork NSW testing detected no respirable asbestos fibres in nationally recalled coloured sand products, aligning with enHealth advice that there is a very low health risk related to the recently recalled coloured sand products.

Residents can now double bag the recalled sand and safely dispose of it in their regular red-lid kerbside bin.

This advice is different to asbestos-containing materials such as fibro sheeting, which must never be placed in household bins.

How to dispose of recalled coloured sand products:

  • Double bag the coloured sand in strong plastic bags
  • Tape the bags tightly
  • Place the bagged sand in your red-lid kerbside bin
